Marathon Man

Phillip Stoner L-R Phillip and Jon Stoner

A gem of a performance at this years London Marathon as Jonathan Stoner, managing director of Phillip Stoner, the Jewellers in county Arcade at Leeds’ VQ, crossed the finish line in 4 hours and 12 minutes, covering 26.2 miles in total.

“I’m struggling this week! The back of my legs hurt, I’m feeling stiff and I’m still hobbling about,” Jonathan explains from the Phillip Stoner VQ store. “But the atmosphere was just amazing and the support that I’ve had from so many people really kept me going. When I ‘hit the wall’ at around 18 to 20 miles, it was the thought of how generous everybody has been with their donations to my chosen charity that really spurred me on”.

Jonathan ran this year’s Virgin London Marathon to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation. His father, Phillip, suffered a major heart attack in 2007 and has since made an excellent recovery, largely due to the work of this great charity.

This was Jonathan’s first marathon and in preparation he was running in excess of 50 miles per week as part of his gruelling training programme and was aiming to raise £2000. But thanks to the incredible generosity of so many, that amount continues to rise and currently stands at £3,600, and with still time to donate, the original target amount could even double!

“Never again!” Jonathan proclaimed as he nursed his sore and weary legs at the end of the race, but he’s now confessed to already thinking about next year and how he could perhaps improve his time!

Huge congratulations to Jonathan and if you wish to donate, there’s still time…..
